Blonde Ambition by Rose Renda

Rose Renda, winner of Pravana’s Rock Your Cut and Color contest, created this gorgeous blonde with Pravana’s ChromaSilk color.

“Amy has fine, thin hair that has been recently razor cut,” says Rose Renda, winner of Pravana’s Rock Your Cut and Color contest. “I am going to give a face frame and remove weight to preserve length, and give a nice line and strong movement.”

Apply a leave-in conditioner. Isolate a circle section from above the rounds of the head to the crown. Section the rest of the hair in five sections as shown. Begin in the back. Pull out vertical sections and trim ends to follow the shape of the head. Blend from ear to ear.

Go into the circle section. Pull out vertical sections and cut away the ends from a stationary guide, leaving the shortest piece at crown.

Along the top of the head, pull up one-inch sections and cut to connect the shortest piece, blending forward. Cut to leave length toward the face.

Now apply color, following the cut pattern. Begin below the rounds of the head. Apply color from roots to ends. Formula one: 3/4 oz of 6.45 and 1/4 oz 5 Chromasilk with 20-volume developer to make a dark mahogany blonde.

Now mix formula two: Equal parts 6.23 and 9.22 to make copper, with 20-volume developer. Formula two is applied to slices around perimeter. Alternate in two-inch triangular sections with formula one.

Along the parietal, keep 1/8 inch off scalp for a more natural, sun-kissed finish for highlighting shade. In slices, introduce formula three: 9.13 with 20-volume developer (light golden blonde). Alternate formula one with this shade.

Go between foils and apply formula one with 20-volume developer.

Along the top, apply 10.04 with 10-volume developer (shear copper blonde) in slices.

Place slices back to back with formula two placed between. Process according to manufacturer’s instructions.

For a naturally sexy finish, one- and two-inch sections are set with a jumbo curling iron.

For the more dramatic updo, crimped wefts are built into the hair. Sections are then drawn up to the back and crown, while soft curls are left to fall forward.
