More men are visiting salons for haircuts, but are salons addressing all of their male clients' grooming needs? Amanda Olusanya, owner of Allen Ray Salon and educator for Aveda, encourages adding the following 3 services to increase your value and elevate the experience for your male clients.
WAXING
Some men do will opt for body and brow shaping if they are educated about the process. Olusanya also offers ear and nose waxes. She recommends experiment with ear waxing on someone patient for the first time, "The trick is to find the flattest areas possible, it takes me about 4-5 strips per ear."
SCALP CARE
Men have more scalp problems than women because men’s scalps are three times thicker, resulting in dandruff, dry scalp, acne and irritation. Offer men a scalp treatment to help with redness, bumps or flakiness.
SKIN CARE
Offer mini facials at the shampoo bowl that don’t involve a steamer. Olusanya says, “It’s a perfect introduction to talking about skin care needs with men.” She applies a mask that fits her client’s skin type, a series of hot towels, provides a hand massage, and an extended facial massage.
