The year's end brings an influx of clients requesting formal occasion styles. But the holiday season isn't the only time of year where having upstyling skills in your arsenal can pay off (literally). At MODERN, we want to help you stay ahead of the game, so we launched our Slay Belles contest and asked you to submit your best holiday-inspired hair. We received countless entries that featured glamorous waves, glossy finishes and blinged-out chignons. Although the contest is closed, you still have the chance to win some of the amazing prizes the finalists are snagging by entering our Slay Belles Giveaway—the winners go home with jaw-dropping loot.

Gone are the days where a simple braid and a bun will suffice. As Chicago-area stylist and Artist Connective member Diana Giannini (@lzhouseofhair) pointed out, clients want their styles to be unique, effortless and on-trend.Sometimes a traditional braid can seem too youthful. In this video,Giannini creates two different styles that can be added on to any service for an upcharge or can be the perfect style for clients look to go from a day with the kiddos to a night out. She used products from our Challenge Box sponsors—Hot ToolsHairUWear Professional and Scruples.
