From the Editor

As any creative vision comes to life, big impact comes from small sparks of inspiration. Maybe it’s a leaf changing color for the season, or the sun-kissed strands of a child’s hair—it could be the architecture of a cosmopolitan city or the lattice of a pastry: Inspiration, for an artist, is everywhere.

As we collaborated with Ulta Beauty for this issue of MODERN SALON, it truly took a village: from Ammon Carver’s moodboard for the backdrop, to the diverse beauty of the models, and the brainstorming influence of experience from the artists and the photoshoot team.

Also joining us on set was aspiring industry professional Sophia Schack @sophiasketches_. The 13-year-old loves everything in our industry and isn’t quite sure which direction she is headed.

She spent the afternoon helping the Ulta Beauty team when and wherever needed, and she gleefully accepted when Carmody Homan asked if he could cut her hair to release her naturally gorgeous texture.

When the day was over, the artistic inspiration didn’t end, it amplified.

A week after the shoot, our Beauty and Fashion Director Maggie Mulhern received sketches from Schack sharing her interpretation of her favorite finishes from the day.

It was such a gift for us to receive these inspiring images and artistic interpretation of the beauty that unfolded, reminding us that at the most wonderful—and busy!—time of the year, just like inspiration, small gestures can make a big impact.

We close 2019 by extending our deepest gratitude for making all of MODERN SALON’s platforms so beautiful, engaging and vibrant. It’s the work, talent and collaboration you share with us every day that continues to fuel our passion.

Thank you for all you do to make this industry such a beautiful place.
