When Wella Professionalsannounced hair colorist and social media star Patricia Nikole, @paintedhair, as one of their new Brand Ambassadors, MODERN SALON celebrated with her.  This pioneer in hair painting trends has been one of the MODERN SALON 100 and someone whose work we have followed and loved.

As one of the first Latin American minorities to join the Wella Professionals Global Brand Ambassador family, Nikole has been using her platform to celebrate her heritage and to proclaim her pride in its rich culture during Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15- October 15).

“I feel proud to be a female Hispanic who was recognized as a 2019 MODERN SALON 100 stylist,” Nikole says. “I love that MODERN SALON embraces diversity and celebrates inclusion with their MODERN SALON 100 list!"

Nikole shares what it means to be her to be honoring her heritage, now and always:    

MODERN SALON: HOW ARE YOU CELEBRATING HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH?

PATRICIA NIKOLE: Hispanic Heritage Month is a celebration of the Hispanic and Latinx community. We are small business owners, salon owners, public servants, and more.  One of the things our rich culture is known for is our artistry. I’m proud to be a Latina in the hair industry and to represent our culture in everything that I do and create.

 I am celebrating by posting some beautiful Latinx art on my Instagram.  Also, I posted some videos earlier this month discussing my love of my Hispanic Heritage!

MODERN SALON: HOW CAN WE SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER IN THESE TIMES OF UNCERTAINTY?

PATRICIA NIKOLE: I believe that embracing diversity is one of the most important things we can do and it is our responsibility to be a positive example and teach/ educate others as well. Every culture is beautiful and should be equally recognized and respected!

During National Hispanic Heritage Month, the U.S. government celebrates the countless contributions of more than 60 million Hispanic Americans to our culture and society. Hispanic Americans are the largest minority group in the United States today, and generations of Hispanic Americans have consistently helped make our country strong and prosperous. They contribute to our Nation beyond description. Hispanic Americans embody the best of our American values, including commitment to faith, family, and country. They serve in our military and protect us as members of law enforcement. In fact, Hispanic Americans make up half of our Border Patrol agents. The Hispanic-American community has left an indelible mark on our government, culture, and economy.

The Department of State celebrates America’s rich Hispanic history and culture with National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 – October 15. National Hispanic Heritage Month, with roots going back to 1968, celebrates the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Mexico, Chile, and Belize also celebrate their independence days during this period. Columbus Day in Mexico (Día de la Raza) is on October 12.

During National Hispanic Heritage Month, we recognize the contributions and the important presence of Hispanic and Latin Americans in the U.S. and within the Department. In commemoration of the 2020, National Hispanic Heritage Month, the Department highlights biographies of outstanding Hispanic employees who support diplomatic efforts around the world.
