Note From the Editor: Ageless Beauty
Our annual Beauty for the Ages issue of MODERN SALON is always a fun one to put together. How literal will our artists be with the theme? In years past, we’ve featured a mature model with natural salt and pepper hair, retro styles that fit a decade theme and, last year, we featured a little bit of it all for our first-ever cover collection of contemporary twists on classic techniques for every client.
This issue, we went with a “work it" theme, sharing ways to wear the hottest beauty trends no matter the age or occupation.
For our cover shoot, Paul Mitchell Artistic Director of Color Colin Caruso wanted to showcase how clients can embrace traditionally alternative hair color trends—such as pinks and pastels—in a wearable, subtle way that works for both the corporate world and as a means of self-expression. See the results beginning on page 68.
On page 42, we explore the roots of balayage through an exposé with blonding queen Nancy Braun, who shares the evolution, education and opportunity behind hair color’s biggest movement that’s transcending generations: balayage.
And beginning on page 46, we showcase the incredible talent and artistry of the finalists of 2018’s North American Hairstyling Awards. As proud co-founders of the event, we celebrate these artists ranging from masters to newcomers as they make their mark on the industry. The live event is July 29; stay tuned to modernsalon.com/naha for details.
Lastly, don’t forget about thinning hair and how it impacts your clientele of all ages. Our upcoming HAIR+ issue will arrive with your August MODERN and will focus on all aspects of thinning hair and related solutions designed to arm you with the information, tools and confidence you need to get involved in the hair-thinning conversation with clients—no matter their age or demographic.
