Dotty Hurtado (@hairbydotty), the co-owner of Prismatic Hair Studio in San Antonio and a balayage and foilyage specialist, caught our eye with her gorgeous, seamless blonde blends. She is a master colorist and we asked her to share some of her must-do steps to achieve her lovely lifts and tones:

  1.  Take thin sections for your highlights and always foil as close to the root as possible.
  2. Always make sure you are applying the proper amount of lightener. Switching developers when doing a lot of blonding is essential.
  3. Knowing the difference between a babylight/traditional highlight/slice etc. will help you to create such a natural, customizable blonde.
  4. When creating a natural “lived in” blonde always try to choose your root shadow 1-2 levels on their natural hair color.
  5. The thinner the weave the more seamless the look!

Think you know balayage? Think again. Read our guide to the technique to become the ultimate expert.
