How To Create Customized Backbar Treatments for All Clients

One of our favorite stylists to follow, Kayluh Stewart, is known for her incredible, dimensional balayage work. In fact, a how-to article showcasing her Toasted Coconut color work was one of our most-read last year!

Her signature on her @kayluhskolors page? Healthy, shiny results to showcase the dimension.

In this video recapping a recent client service, Stewart showcases how she used Matrix's Biolage R.A.W. Fresh Recipes to custom-craft an in-salon treatment for her client to have results that pop!

Biolage R.A.W. Fresh Recipes are professional-only, backbar cleansing and treatment services designed to treat hair that is dry, frizzy, coarse, damaged, fine or suffering from product build-up, with multiple combinations that can be customized.

Each treatment begins with two base formulas: Biolage R.A.W. Cleansing Juice or the Biolage R.A.W. Treatment Milk. These formulas serve as foundations for the final recipes. Stylists can then reach for any combination of six natural-origin mix-ins to whip up blends based on the client’s needs.

"For my client, I started with Base A for the Cleaning Juice to condition and detangle my client’s hair," Stewart says. "Step 2 of my bowl is Coconut Syrup, a mixture of coconut and avocado oil that would best treat my client’s porous and chemically treated hair."

To top off each recipe, stylists have the option to add one or more of three fragrance oils to create a truly sensorial cleansing and conditioning treatment.

"For this client, I selected a fragrance of jojoba, which also added as a softening oil to the mixture," she says. "Pour all on the hair at the sink. Remember to lather well! Finally, follow up with a Fresh Recipes Conditioning Treatment!"

Other fragrance selections include ginger root patchouli with lively ginger root and grapefruit; and pink peppercorn eucalyptus with spicy peppercorn and cinnamon bark.

"I like to let my client pick which fragrance she likes best!" Stewart says.
