According to Pravana Artistic Director Vadre Grigsby, grunge is making a comeback in a big way. Kristen Stewart went orange, Katy Perry went green and Amber Heard is sporting a dip-dyed punk style.
“This will mean dark roots, fun, faded-color ends and long, straight, unbothered-with hair," says Grigsby. "I can see the trend of cornrow braids tying in here for those who want to lightly relive shaved sides. Grunge back then was a mix of bohemian free-spirit with the irreverence of punk rock. Although we haven’t dove completely off the stage into the anarchy of stringy, straight texture, get ready for the lived-in look.”
Amber Heard's Pastel Princess Meets Rebel Street Girl:
Pre-lighten the lengths to level 10 without any yellow (deepen the base to ChromaSilk 4N with 10 volume for deposit only, if needed) shampoo, and dry the hair. Mix 3 parts VIVIDS Pink with 1 part VIVIDS Magenta and apply this formula to the first 3 inches of light hair closest to the dark hair. Next, take what is left of the mixture and add 2 parts PASTELS Pretty in Pink with 2 parts VIVIDS Clear. Apply this through the remaining lengths of the hair. Process 20 minutes at room temperature, shampoo and style (or un-style in this case) as desired.
Katy Perry’s “Green Slime” look:
Prelighten the lengths to level 9 pale yellow (deepen the base to ChromaSilk 4N with 10 volume for deposit only, if needed) shampoo, and dry the hair. Mix 2 parts VIVIDS Yellow, 2 parts VIVIDS Clear, 3 parts PASTELS Mystical Mint and 3 part PASTELs Blissful Blue. Apply through the pre-lightened ends. Process 20 minutes at room temperature, shampoo and style as desired.
