"This was the most technical and difficult color melt I have ever created!" says Toni Rose Larson, owner and hair artist at Hairitage Salon (@hairitagesaloncarlsbad). "This client is at a level 6 at the base to mid-shaft and a level 8/9 from mid-shaft to ends. She had grown out highlights from a year ago and wanted a pastel color melt, keeping the color as light as possible.
"My de-colorizing process took 11 hours. The formulation to pre-lighten was lightener and Olaplex. I took very small slices, blocking the panels and putting all her hair in foils. This process was repeated twice leaving this client with roughly 200 foils in her head! After I achieved my desired level I toned with Redken 09V."
This color design took two days, with the decolorization on day one and the melting on day two.
Here Larson shares the day two how-to:
STEP 1: Beginning at the base, melt a custom formulation of Pravana Pink & Neon Pink.
STEP 2: Melt into Pravana Pretty in Pink.
STEP 3: Melt into Pravana Mystical Mint & A Ribbon of Neon Green.
STEP 4: Melt into the ends. Color used: a custom Mustard formulation of Pravana Mystical Mint & Yellow.
STEP 5: Process according to the manufacturers instructions and then rinse with cold water.
