Brunettes like this beautiful example by Melody Larissa (@ml_methods), a Pravana artist and educator based in Ohio, trigger a craving for mocha, espresso and hot chocolate.

“I like my brunettes the same way I like my coffee... always with some caramel drizzle ☕️,” says Melody, who was recently named the Chromasilk Winner in the Pravana “Show Us Your Artistry” annual competition. “So can we break down how I got the big mean green out and transformed it into this beautiful brunette balayage?”  Yes, please…

PROCESS

Haircolor: Pravana

Step 1) Shampoo with Clarifying Shampoo.

On damp hair, apply Express Tones Rose Gold and Scarlett Red Vivids Everlasting.

Allow to process for 10 minutes “until everything was neutralized out!” The end result was a rose tone.

Step 2) On damp hair, apply Color Lush 6n 7A and 5s with zero lift onto the entire head and let it process for 20 minutes, “neutralizing and giving me a more even base to work with.”

Step 3) “Went in with Pure Light Ulta Lightener and 10/20 volume, adding in the blonde pieces and also going in with 6ntl/5n 10 volume for lowlights. The rest of the hair left out had Color Lush applied.”

Step 4) Washed out, the hair had beautiful blonde pieces and I wanted to keep her on the warmer side of the blondes so I used Zero Lift and 6.3/6.37 and 8.37 applied all over and processed for 15 minutes.”

Four and a half hours later… “It was such a fun challenge. I love doing color corrections, sometimes they can be challenging but I find it’s a great way to slow down and really take the time to understand why you’re doing each process!”
