Note From the Editor: May Forecast
It's hard to imagine a time when hair-care products didn’t contain argan or another oil, but when I first started as an associate editor at MODERN SALON, I remember getting a box delivered of a new launch called Moroccanoil.
At the time, the collective thought was, “Who would deliberately add more oil to their hair?” Everyone at the office was too nervous to try it for fear of their hair looking greasy or weighed down, so they all gave me their samples.
I took it home, tried it and completely fell in love. Not only was the fragrance of the product intoxicating—seriously, that signature scent can be identified from a mile away—but it instantly smoothed my unruly, frizzy hair and made my color so shiny.
That year, when trade-show season came around, the brand was everywhere and the lines to purchase had the Moroccanoil booth swamped. (Fast-forward 10 years, if Moroccanoil samples come into the office, forget it: No one is sharing with me—that liquid gold gets hoarded!) In this issue, see how Moroccanoil celebrates its 10-year anniversary with a new launch featured on our cover and on page 78.
Also in this issue is page after page of color inspiration, education and formulas from some of the industry’s leading colorists and manufacturers. The forecast? Soft, sophisticated hair color is the clear-cut trend following a season of bold shades. Color melts and root smudges are still major players in spring’s more subtle color story, and balayage remains a central character. Turn to page 44 to get started with how the season will embrace color with class.
